From Dreams to Reality

Help us reach our 2014/2015 goal of $235,000


Everyone has dreams; people with intellectual disabilities are no exception. They may dream about a comfortable nights sleep, being able to leave the house to participate in an activity in their community, or taking a self improvement course.  Your support would help people achieve their dreams and live a more fulfilled and happy life. Here are some examples of how donations to From Dreams to Reality make a difference:



$5000 ‘Living Healthy’

  • Provides specialized formula for 1 month to ensure the survival of 1 baby born with special needs and life threatening digestive challenges; or
  • Provides a customized bed for 1 person with extreme mobility challenges; or
  • Provides 7 people with intellectual disabilities a 1 year membership to their local recreational facility.

$2500 ‘Therapeutic and Recreational Courses’

  • Provides 5 days of programming for 10 youth with special needs; or
  • Pays for 12 weeks of therapeutic recreation for someone whose multiple challenges make even daily living a struggle; or
  • Provides a 1 year scholarship for up to 2 students in the Developmental Service Worker Program at Georgian College.

$1000 ‘Unexpected Circumstances’

  • Provides specialized corrective helmet to a baby born with special needs; or
  • Covers 1 month of rent for a family facing unforeseen financial hardships, to help them get back on their feet.

$750 ‘Dream Right, Job in Sight’

  • Provides 1 individual with job training and skills development to enable them to earn an income and help support themselves independently; or
  • Covers 1 month’s honorarium for a Self Advocate Advisor. This part-time, year round position helps ensure continuous quality improvement for programs and services offered by Simcoe Community Services.

$500 ‘The Joy of Hearing’, ‘Sparkling Smiles’ and ‘Happy Feet’

  • Provides hearing aids to 1 person in need of hearing assistance, bringing sweet sound into the lives of those who are struggling to communicate; or
  • Provides dignity and self esteem to someone in need of a rejuvenated smile with a set of dentures or other extensive dental work; or
  • Provides a pair of special shoes with orthotics for 1 person, so they are more comfortable getting around.

$300 'The 3 R’s' (Readiness for school, Respite for families, and Rehabilitation)

  • Offsets Resource Teacher wait lists by providing an 8 week, getting ready for Kindergarten program for 1 child and their caregiver; or
  • Provides 12 hours of respite care for 1 family in need of extra support; or
  • Provides 2-3 hours of rehabilitation treatments with a specialist for 1 person.

$250 ‘Send a Kid to Camp’

  • Provides 1 week of camp for 1 child with special needs. Every child deserves the fulfilling and rewarding opportunities that camp offers.

$100 ‘Getting Around in My Community’

  • Covers the mileage for a volunteer driver to take one child to a Toronto-based specialist appointment; or
  • Provides bus fare for 1 person for a month.

$50 ‘Healthy Hearts’

  • Provides 1 person access to 5 fitness or swimming classes.

$30 ‘Comfortable Living’ care package

  • Provides one individual with the basic creature comforts to help them live more comfortably for one week; or
  • Provides 2 hours of respite to a family in need.
