Raising The Roof for O'Brien House

Through vision and planning, the dream of owning a home to care for aging people with intellectual disabilities became a reality 10 years ago. O’Brien House was built in 2002 on 2 acres of land donated by Susan Woods and by the volunteer board of Abbeyfield Housing Society of Shanty Bay, after a successful capital campaign.

In January, 2004, O’Brien House was acquired by Simcoe Community Services Foundation and the agency took over its operation.  This year we need to make necessary repairs to the roof and extensive fire safety upgrades that conform to Ontario Regulation 150/13 of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.  There are no funds forthcoming from the Government for this project.

We believe that people with intellectual disabilities deserve a safe and dignified place to live and with community support we can “raise the roof” to continue to make this happen. It will be an investment in the residents, the economy and for everyone in the region.  With this belief, we have initiated the Raising the Roof for O’Brien House $350,000 Campaign.

The residents are happy and proud to call O’Brien House their home. Your donation would help to keep it a safe and dignified place to live.
